Image Decomposition Engine
A continuous image decomposition engine.
The system cycles through multiple modes of visual reduction, including bitmap dithering, halftone rendering, chromatic displacement, and signal corruption.
Each transformation reveals a different historical method of image reproduction while exposing the material structure hidden beneath contemporary high-resolution media.
The image oscillates between clarity and collapse.
**Artistic Context**
The project is situated within ongoing investigations into memory, archives, digital materiality, and computational culture.
Rather than treating technology as a tool for producing ever more realistic images, What Remains uses reduction, degradation, and abstraction to reveal the structures through which contemporary vision is mediated.
The work proposes that loss is not the opposite of information. Loss can also be a method of understanding.
